Now is the perfect time to turn your attention to your skin. Whether you've just moved through winter’s cold dry winds, or the salty air and sunny rays of summer, it’s a sweet season for faces. So if your reflection doesn’t look as radiant and healthy as you’d like, try these five steps to transforming your skin.

Step 1.

Check your lifestyle. Products can make a huge difference, but first equip your skin for success by giving it more sleep and less junk. Skin repairs itself as you snooze, which is why those late nights often result in puffy, sallow-looking skin. And you really are what you eat and drink. This means more water, less alcohol, more veggies, less sugar. Clean up your diet and watch how your skin celebrates.

Step 2.

Wash your face regularly. We know you intend to, but now you actually have to do it every day. You can make this easier by keeping a face cleanser in the shower for mornings and stocking up on make-up wipes to use in the evening — just don’t skip this step! A morning cleanse prepares your pores for steps that follow, and evening cleansing washes the day’s dirt and oil and bacteria away. (Seriously, don’t go to bed with that grime on your beautiful face!)

Step 3.

Use a serum. Serums, if you don’t already use them, are miracle workers. Apply a light layer of an antioxidant serum to help fight the free radicals you’ll encounter all day, or choose one that addresses specific conditions. Murad Environmental Shield Rapid Age Spot Correcting Serum, for example, repairs sun damage and evens out colouring, taking on hyper-pigmentation, dark spots and age spots. Other targeted serums may fight wrinkles, redness, dryness or any of the other myriad issues skin can exhibit.

Step 4.

Focus on your eyes. There are so many easy ways to love on your eyes, and yet they so often get neglected. Look in the mirror and consider your eyes’ specific needs. Are your delicate eyelids puffy? Are the wrinkles and fine lines becoming more prominent? Do you have dark circles underneath? There are products for each of these, from serums to creams to cool-gel eye masks (and even tea bags and cucumbers) — so there is no excuse to neglect your peepers!

Step 5.

Use a moisturiser with sunscreen. You’ll enjoy the benefits of moisturiser immediately; your skin feels softer and smoother, that dry stiffness is instantly gone, and you can more easily and uniformly apply your makeup. (Even if you have oily skin, moisturising is a vital step! Just choose one that’s suited to your skin type.) As for the sunscreen part, the biggest benefits are long-term: you’re protecting your skin against all the signs of premature aging and, most importantly, skin cancer.

By the way, that long-term damage doesn’t just happen at the beach; UV rays are hitting you every time you go outside, whether you’re on a jet ski or crossing the grocery store parking lot. Do. Not. Skip. The. Sunscreen.
