Spotlight: Living a Wholesome Life with Nadia Felsch

Nadia Felsch is a Sydney-based health blogger, magazine columnist and qualified nutritionist (BHSc). Her delicious recipes have featured in a number of major publications including the Huffington Post, Mind Body Green and Women’s Fitness.

Nadia and her husband also launched a range of healthy baking mixes – Wholefood Society – that are 100% organic and made from natural, real food...and they taste incredible!

What words do you live by? 

Heart first.

 

You are incredibly passionate about healthy eating, particularly wholefoods - where does your passion come from?

It feels so good! Connecting with the difference between food for food and food to feel your best is what underlies my drive for eating real food.

And who doesn’t want to feel and look their best?

 

What is your philosophy of 'eating freedom'?

Eating in line with your own unique instincts and needs. Allowing that to direct what you eat as opposed to a clock, a scale or a calorie guide. It’s the end of diets and the embracing of feeling great from nourishing yourself and freeing up all that time you used to spend worried about what to eat.

 

How has your focus on nutrition helped you with your own health?

Going from being an amateur athlete (who got away with anything and everything I ate) to being diagnosed with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in my early 20’s was a game changer. It ignited in me a re-examination of my work, the foods I was eating and how I looked after my health. 

As I shared above, feeling your best from the food you eat is a thing and I began to feel that thing!

Unfortunately that also led to an over-fascination and a pattern of disordered eating. Coming out the other side, having a focus on why nourishing your body matters and actually understanding how it works, has brought me health, vitality and an energy that I plan to have stick around!

 

You have some DELICIOUS recipes on your site! Which is your personal favourite?

Ooooh that’s a tough one and thanks for the kind words! I frequently cook from my own website and I’d say my fave is the “bolognaise without spaghetti” which we love making at home and enjoying as an easy dinner + delicious leftovers too!

 

Tell us about Wholefood Society and your baking mixes.

The Wholefood Society Mixes are about making easeful, convenient and consistent healthy eating within your reach, and keeping it there.

Our product range currently includes 2 x healthy baking mixes. They’re as simple as MIX & BAKE to ensure no fuss, stress or spoiled mess at home! You only need to add common household ingredients such as oil or water and voila you’re a master healthy baker in no time!

Our mixes have been nutritionally developed, whilst at the same time being made incredibly easy for anyone to have delicious success with and enjoy!

Although we’re still growing, (and working on new products), it’s for all these reasons that I think our mixes have hit the mark with so many people and we’re very proud.

 

Do you have a morning routine or daily wellness habits?

I have a few daily habits that keep me feeling my best:

  • Drinking 2-3L water/day
  • Enjoying a balanced brekkie like eggs + avocado on Wholefood Society Nut & Seed Protein Loaf
  • Filling up my plate first with veggies to hit around 5-6 cups/day
  • Getting outside – even if for just 30 minutes when walking the pups
  • Moving my body
  • Laughing – even if just from trashy TV

 

You recently qualified as a fully-fledged Nutritionist, CONGRATULATIONS! what's the most fascinating thing you learnt in your studies?

Learning about, and really grasping, the incredibly complex world that is digestion and absorption of food in the body blew my mind!

Just how many processes the body goes through and how many intertwined factors are required for these functions is both impressive and worrisome when so many of us don’t have nutritionally complete diets.

What do you love to do when you're not cooking delicious food and studying?

Planning travel, moving my body in a whole heap of ways, coffee with friends, Netflix time and walking with my pups and husband.

 

Who or what inspires you?

I take inspiration from everyone I come across and everything I read. Everyone has lessons to teach you and I’ve chosen to surround myself with inspiring humans and their life lessons, even if only via their books and podcasts. For instance, I read Richard Branson’s Losing My Virginity autobiography at 20 years old and have re-read it countless times. 

On a higher level, life inspires me. To get up every day and live what makes you soar is a beautiful and cyclical thing because it inspires you to keep going.

What's next for you and Wholefood Society?

I recently graduated as a Nutritionist (BHSc) and am off-the-wall excited to merge everything I’ve worked on the past 5 years with the Bachelor qualification.
