Spotlight: Supercharge Your Life With Nutritionist Lee Holmes

We talked to Lee about what it takes to build a successful business, the inspiration behind her Supercharged blog, how to heal your gut, new exciting projects and so much more...
1. What words do you live by?
Live simply, be kind and be real.
2. What motivated you to create Supercharged?
After being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and fibromyalgia a few years ago, I was accustomed to feeling lethargic, experiencing pain and feeling depressed. My body was on a cocktail of foreign chemicals and medicines. Whilst all of the antibiotics and medicines were going to fix my symptoms, I knew there was an underlying issue that I had to figure out. This sparked my nerdy obsession with all things wellbeing and gut health! This is when I started my blog, www.superchargedfood.com. I used it, and still use it, to share recipes, connect with others and write down my discoveries and ideas!
3. Has your vision for the business changed since you first started back in 2011?
Definitely! I didn’t ever really think it would turn out the way that it has. I guess you can never really predict what’s going to happen but wow - I still can’t believe how much I enjoy my work!
4. What's the first step to supercharging your life?
Be real with yourself; no fakes allowed! Any nutritionist will tell you that fake food, like sugars, white bread and candy, aren’t good for your health. Something that’s often neglected however, is the fact that there’s so much more to a healthy life than diet and exercise. I supercharge my life by surrounding myself with real friends and family. Over the years, I’ve realised that health is a holistic approach and I resonate most with the Ayurvedic approach to health.
5. You've recently published your SEVENTH book, 'Fast Your Way to Wellness'. Huge congratulations!! Can you tell us a little about the book and the science behind fasting?
‘Fast Your Way to Wellness’ is a gentle guide to different fasting methods to suit your own plan. I share my personal tips for what I do when I get cravings, how I manage my portion sizes and what foods are best for fasting days and non-fasting day. I have come up with over 90 new delicious recipes to nourish and sustain you throughout your fast days and keep you on track. While many ‘fasters’ often eat low-calorie junk foods or skip meals altogether, ‘Fast Your Way to Wellness’ provides easy and yummy recipes that will keep you satisfied and happy.
And now for the science! Intermittent fasting has proven to reduce blood pressure, reduce inflammation, increase fat burning, improve the beneficial gut bacteria and normalise your hunger hormone for better appetite control. Coming from someone who’s personally experienced autoimmune issues, I have seen how much I've benefited from intermittent fasting.
6. Whilst stalking you on insta, we found your Curly Wurly recipe...ermm YUMMO!! This is definitely one of our favourites. Do you have a go to recipe to help curb sugar cravings?
The Curly Wurly’s are as delicious as they look and will make you feel all sorts of nostalgia. They’ll actually be a feature in my newest book (more on that later!). I’m a little bit obsessed with a good chai tea. If you make me a chai, I’ll be more than satisfied.
7. When it comes to eating well, there are a multitude of fad diets and eating plans out there which can get a little overwhelming. What's your personal food philosophy?
I eat real food! I intermittent fast twice a week, consuming 500 real and wholesome calories per day. On the other five days of the week, I’m still eating healthily and love to nourish my body with whole foods. But sometimes, you just need a bar of chocolate and that’s perfectly okay, in fact, it’s encouraged!
8. Tell us about your new Golden Gut Blend.

9. Your business seems to be growing at a rate of knots which must be keeping you very busy! Do you have any tips on maintaining a work life balance?
This is something I’ve really tried working on this year. It’s so important to take time for yourself, spend time with your family and friends and have well-deserved breaks!
10. Do you have a morning routine that you swear by or any daily wellness habits?
I keep my morning routine super simple! The first thing I do when I wake up is have a tablespoon of my Heal Your Gut powder with a glass of warm water. Gut health is the gateway to good health, beauty and happiness. I love to start my day with a walk, just me – no phone, no friends and no work! I take a break from emails, from my family and from my chaotic schedule and just enjoy some time to myself. I love walking to the beach and totally disconnecting from the craziness of traffic and my usual surroundings.
11. At CSK, we're all about finding ways to live the happiest life possible. What is happiness to you?
Ooh good question! Happiness to me is sitting with my husband Justin, having lunch with my daughter, drinking a chai and watching the sunset. I don’t think happiness has to be an abstract idea; I think it’s part of our everyday lives.
12. What's next for you and Supercharged?
I’m going to the USA very soon which I’m very excited about! I’m also promoting my Golden Gut blend! Oh, and there’s a new book next year that I know you will just love (hint, hint!).
